2022 Rewind: What to Watch on OTT?
5 minuteRead
It’s that time of the year when we sit back and reflect on all the amazing web series and movies that ruled OTT platforms. We have to acknowledge the fact that this year we got to witness a lot of good content from the comfort of our homes. On the contrary, movies that were released in the theatres were quite a let-down. Kudos to the super talented artists who continuously bring us respite from our mundane routines. For me, 2022 had a mixed bag of content. We had a fair share of drama, thriller, crime, comedy, romance, and so on. Let’s look back at the best series on OTT. Here’s a roundup of my favourite movies and web-shows.

Top 10 OTT Shows & Movies in India 2022
- Human
Where: Disney+Hotstar
IMDB: 7.9
Starring Shefali Shah and Kirti Kulhari in the lead, Human is an interesting series with a novel subject. It is a medical thriller set against the backdrop of human drug testing. It delves deep into the double standards of society that view humans as guinea pigs. The series starts with an impactful opening scene and picks up pace when a drug trial on the impoverished goes wrong. Further, it explores the hypocrisy of pharmaceutical companies, private hospitals and government officials.
- The Fame Game
Where: Netflix
IMDB: 6.8
Madhuri Dixit marked her debut on OTT with a rather compelling show. The Fame Game released earlier this year. It follows the story of a fictional Bollywood superstar, Anamika Anand and her mysterious disappearance. Despite the slow star, the investigation makes the show interesting. Her personal life soon becomes the talk of the town and many dark secrets are revealed. In parts, it also touches upon mental health issues, nepotism and the LGBTQ community. This 2022 web series is raw and honest, and explores the dark side of stardom.
- Delhi Crime – Season 2
Where: Netflix
IMDB: 8.5
After season one of Delhi Crime that tackled the Nirbhaya case, I was awaiting season two. Luckily, it wasn’t disappointing. The sequel has done full justice to the franchise. DCP Vartika Chaturvedi played by Shefali Shah, comes back with a bang as she sets out to investigate the serial killings of elite aged people done by a group of killers popularly known as the Kachcha Baniyan gang. The way the story unfolds, and the twists and turns truly keeps the viewer on the edge of the seat. It also has a crisp and sharp narrative.
- Darlings
Where: Netflix
IMDB: 6.6
Alia Bhatt and Shefali Shah-starrer, Darlings, released directly on OTT this year. Though it opened to mixed responses, it turned out to be a huge hit. It’s a dark comedy as well as a twisted suspenseful thriller. Though there are no fancy sets or clothes, the story wonderfully explores the quirky relationship of the mother-daughter duo. It’s funny, witty and has a strong message about domestic violence. I strongly recommend this one.
- Wedding Season
Where: Netflix
IMDB: 6.3
Wedding Season is an OTT movie you shouldn’t be missing. It’s a rom-com starring Pallavi Sharda and Suraj Sharma. It’s an American film with a strong Indian essence. It explores the lives of Asha and Ravi who are forced to meet by their parents in an arranged marriage format. Owing to their parental pressure, they decide to pretend to date for the entire span of the wedding season. Things go topsy-turvy when they realise they actually have feelings for each other.
- Duranga
Where: Zee5
IMDB: 7.1
Zee5 is an OTT platform with really good content. Duranga is one such web-shows I hadn’t heard about but I randomly watched it, and, oh boy! It was amazing. The show is an adaptation of the Korean drama, Flower of Evil. The story unfolds in three different timelines. It explores the life of Ira, a cop, who is investigating multiple murders. During the investigation, she learns some shocking truths about her husband’s dark past. It’s addictive, binge-worthy and very well-written.
- Never Have I Ever – Season 3
Where: Netflix
IMDB: 7.9
Never Have I Ever is easily one of the best series on OTT 2022. After the first two successful seasons, the third instalment of this coming-of-age drama doesn’t fail to disappoint its viewers. It’s edgy, witty and oh-so charming. NHIE – S3 has it all – breakups, hook-ups, struggles, and of course a very cute Indian boy. Will Devi finally be able to find her prince-charming? Watch to find out.
- Wednesday
Where: Netflix
IMDB: 8.4
Wednesday is a coming-of-age supernatural mystery and horror comedy that was released on Netflix recently. If you’ve still not watched it, I highly recommend you do. It’s based on the character Wednesday Addams from The Addams Family. Laughter ensues when the lead investigates a murder spree, and ends up making friends and foes.
- Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein
Where: Netflix
IMDB: 7
Another gripping show on Netflix you shouldn’t be missing is Yeh Kaali Kaali Ankhein. It’s the story of an engineering graduate who wants to leave the town to start a new beginning. Soon, things go haywire when he finds out a politician-gangster’s daughter is obsessed with him. The story also throws light on wealth and power. Though the story is not phenomenal, the characters make it interesting.
- Gullak 3
Where: SonyLiv
IMDB: 9.1
Gullak is a comedy web series I absolutely love. It’s genuine, honest and so relatable. It’s a tale about the Mishra family and their financial struggles. It has its fair share of funny and serious moments. The bittersweet notes and important takeaways is what makes it a wonderful watch. Thumbs up from me.
